Welcome to Will to Live, a RP set in the fictional town of Monroeville, Maine. Orginally a small fishing village turned college town turned tourist trap, long-time locals are now outnumbered by newcomers in their ever-expanding hometown. Plots are primarily member-driven, with a wide range of interesting and diverse characters to interact with. Feel free to jump right in; fresh perspectives and ideas are always welcome.

BOARD RULES
Hello and welcome to Will to Live. We're a community-oriented, play-by-post roleplaying game. In order to join, all members are expected to read and abide by the following rules.

Board Rules were updated on October 31st, 2015.

GENERAL RULES

1.) Be Nice.
You must treat everyone on this board--staff and members alike--with respect. A lot of us might play characters that are generally horrible people but bullying, the use of slurs, or any offensive/discriminatory remarks based on race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. are not allowed out-of-character under any circumstances. If you have any issues with someone that cannot be privately and maturely handled on your own, please notify staff and we will do what we can to resolve it as soon as possible.
2.) Have Fun and Join In.
Enjoy! This is just a game. We love to see people participating in the cbox and chat threads. Please don't feel shy or left out; come join us. Staff and members alike are more than happy to accommodate and involve new members, but you're expected to make a little effort in putting yourself out there.
3.) Age Limits.
All site members should be ages sixteen (16) years or older. All characters should be fourteen (14) years or older.
4.) No Lying/Creating Multiple Personas.
You are you. You are not Sue and Tedd and Joe. Please do not try to pass yourself off as multiple people or pretend to be someone you're not by lying OoC.
ROLEPLAYING RULES

1.) Registration Format.
We are an account-per-character site, meaning you must register a new account for each character you create. Register each character with their first and last name, properly capitalized. You may include a middle name or initials if you wish. If you make a mistake, staff can fix it for you, no problem.

Good Examples: John Doe, John Hubert Doe, John H. Doe
Bad Examples: Doe_Boy19, John "Johnny" Doe, john doe

Upon posting your character's application, members are free to immediately begin posting in the plotting forums and IC intros/chats. However, staff must sort your character into the proper usergroup before you can begin participating in "legit" threads.

Members are also allowed to have a main OoC account if they want to take advantage of the subaccount mod, however this isn't required. For more info on subaccounts, CHECK HERE.
2.) Character Maximums.
There is no limit to how many characters you may have in play. However, if you insist on making character after character while you have older characters going unused or lacking development, staff may ask you to hold off on new characters for awhile and/or request that you archive a few of your older ones before taking on any others.
3.) IC posts must be written in third person, past or present tense.
This is what we use when roleplaying on WtL, so please make sure to adhere to it. Threads and posts in our AU forum, Las Aguas Internacionales, are exempt from this rule.
4.) No Godmodding.
Please do not control other people's characters or read other characters' minds without their player's permission.
5.) This Site is Rated L-2, S-2, V-3.
As of February 2012, we have made the decision to switch Will to Live's rating of PG-13 over to the RPG Rating System. Here is a quick run-down of what sort of content is and isn't permitted on our site. If afterwards you still have questions about what's acceptable, feel free to double-check with a staff member.

Language (2) -- Swearing and use of profanity is allowed in-character, but should be kept to a tasteful minimum in the cbox and OoC sections of the site.

Sexual Content (2) -- Sexual innuendos and references are allowed, but explicit narration is not. This means when it comes to your characters actually doing the deed, please fade to black. And when they're telling their friends about it later, don't go into extreme detail.

Violence (3) -- Extreme violence is permitted, and explicit description or in-game narration of violence is allowed.
6.) Threads containing mature content must be marked with the appropriate content warnings.
While we do allow mature content on WtL, some people may find certain topics or themes upsetting, or just something that they have no interest in reading for fun. Out of respect for that, we have started using an official thread warning system that all members should use to mark their threads containing any potentially triggering subjects.
7.) No Rape or Sexual Abuse.
Your characters cannot be raped or sexually abused in the past or at any point during their time on the board, meaning they cannot be forced or coerced into any type of sexual activity, or have sex with adults while under the age of 18 regardless of circumstances. This applies to both your characters and NPCs mentioned in their characters' histories and threads. We ask that members also refrain from discussions or references (however vague) to rape or sexual abuse in OoC sections of the board, including the cbox, as this is a sensitive topic that is often misrepresented or trivialized in fiction in a way that is offensive to survivors and not something we want on the site.
8.) IC Actions Result in IC Consequences.
If your character does something illegal or downright reckless, there is always the chance that they will be reprimanded with IC consequences. Please note this is not a suspension or punishment for the member but the character. However, if you have too many characters getting into trouble and try to intentionally avoid or refuse to acknowledge IC consequences, staff will take action. Generally when deciding on appropriate consequences for characters, staff looks at the likelihood of witnesses that would report rule-breaking behavior and also how well the offending character has worked to cover their tracks, which is the member's responsibility to establish in the context of the thread where the crime is happening and maintaining that for any following threads. Monroeville is a small town with a low-to-moderate crime rate, so a single robbery is more likely to slide under the radar than a string of car hijackings or murders.

If you are organizing a long-term plot involving illegal or rule-breaking activities including but not limited to kidnappings, murder, bank robberies, shady mafia dealings, or just a really elaborate school prank, IC consequences do still exist. It is not our intention to sabotage or discourage anyone's plots just for kicks, so all we ask for is that you notify a staff member beforehand to give us a friendly heads-up. If we are aware of the situation, staff will try to hold of on any IC judgement calls while things are still playing out, though this does not stop other members' characters from taking IC actions if it makes sense for the situation. Also, if your character is being undeniably obvious or if it gets to the point where other people's plots are compromised then staff reserve the right to intervene sooner.
FONT AND GRAPHIC RULES

Font Must Be Readable. We strongly encourage that members keep the default font size and color when threading, but if you insist on changing it, keep in mind that it must be readable or staff will ask you to change it. Remember that something that looks nice on one skin may not display right on another, so be sure to check before you decide to compose your posts entirely in light pink, size 0 font.

Avatars. Cannot exceed 200 x 300 pixels.

Signatures. Cannot exceed 530 x 275 pixels.

Please make sure the content of your graphics is completely safe for work and appropriate for the board. Not everyone is comfortable with staring at your characters half-naked all the time.

C-BOX RULES

1.) No advertising, spamming, or harrassing.

2.) No texting and driving. Anyone that mentions that they're driving while using the cbox will be temporarily banned for one hour. We want everyone to be safe, and whatever you have to say can wait until you're not behind the wheel.

3.) Respect the comfort level of fellow members. Please remember that this is a public cbox on a site where people come to have fun and unwind. Try to be mindful of your conversation and subject matter, and if another member expresses discomfort, respectfully change the topic or take it to a private messenger.

4.) Content warnings still apply. If you are sharing a link in the cbox that is nsfw or falls under any of our other content warnings (found here), remember to give everyone a fair warning so they know what they're clicking.

5.) Be mindful of spoilers. We all have our favorite shows, books, or movies that we love to talk about, but remember that not everyone has gotten around to checking it out just yet. Please refrain from any details that might spoil the plot for other people.

6.) No moving or flashing avatars. Also, if you are linking to an offsite image or video with flashing or strobe images, please give a warning.
