Foul-weather Friends, Adrienne & Charlie
Posted: Jun 23 2017, 02:11 PM
Charlie isn’t exactly wrong in his assumption. Sympathy being the last thing she would ever expect or ask for from Charlie. “I don’t need it,” she huffs with a sourness to her tone, pulling her arm away as they slow in front of the building. She doesn’t mean to come across so defensive, which serves to make her all the more frustrated with herself and Charlie when he mentions it, deciding she's done she’s with this conversation now.
“Seems we’ve arrived. Best not be late, Charlie.”

"Oh!" Charlie looks up at the building as if he's just noticed it there. All the time they were walking, he hadn't even been glancing around them, and now he has as little an idea of how to get here as he did wandering the halls before Adrienne Kang found him.
No matter. He wasn't really even that worried in the first place, he realizes now that he's safe again. And anyway, he'll always find someone willing to navigate in his place.
He simpers a smile at Adrienne. "Well. Take care. Tell your father Antonia's boy said hello. He might appreciate it. I'm off!" He wiggles his fingers and leaves her there without so much as a thank you, feeling pleased with himself as he disappears inside. It's like Georgette always says, he supposes: a little bit of kindness goes a long way.
And he has just been awfully kind.
